When you think of ratings, many things may come to mind. It can refer to how many people watch a TV program, who the intended audience is for a movie based on its content, or it can be the difference between a great restaurant and a terrible one. In the electrical industry, ratings are present in order for customers to know that the products they’re buying are up to specific quality standards. That way they know they’re getting the best a business has to offer and that they can trust said business to repurchase from them in the future. One such rating that’s offered in this industry is called the NSF rating. It’s a rating that may be familiar to those in the food or pharmaceutical industry.
The NSF, originally known as the National Sanitation Foundation, was created to ensure the products that consumers purchase meet the appropriate standards for public health and safety protection. According to the official site, the NSF regularly “has on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and regular re-testing of products to ensure that they continue to meet the same high standards required to maintain certification over time. If for any reason a product fails to meet one or more certification criteria, NSF will take enforcement actions to protect you, including product recall, public notification or de-certification.” When inspections are passed, eligible products earn the NSF mark showing that they are now NSF rated.
NSF ratings signify that a product is safe for controlled environments such as food processing and pharmaceuticals. Because of this, products such as heavy equipment and machinery that will be in contact with items consumed by people need to have this rating. Multiple industries can be NSF certified such as automotive, food safety and quality, water and wastewater, and building products and interiors, to name a few.
Fixtures that need NSF ratings are those that will potentially come in contact with something people will consume. At TAMCO, several products across our brands are NSF rated including TLP series, CT series, and the TAMUFO series. These products comply with the strict standards as specified by the NSF, fulfilling their need of them.
The NSF rating is one that is meant to protect the consumer and ensure to them that the products they are purchasing meet all public health standards. Adhering to these standards creates greater trust between consumers and brands, making for a mutually beneficial relationship.
